Joane Buteau Dumont

Born in Port au Prince, Haiti, Joane Buteau Dumont is an artist who mainly focuses on Acrylic and Mix Media painting. Art, for her, is a way to cultivate a heightened sense of empathy and understanding of life. She attempts to make a picture of something that does not exist; with lots of emotions and spiritual connections to the vision.

Buteau Dumont is based in the Boston and New York City areas. Her education took place in Ithaca, New York for Hotel Administration, the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York, and in Paris as a catering chef. Buteau Dumont is also an alumna of MassArt, School of Continuing Education, in Boston, Massachusetts. She is a current member of the Haitian Artists Assembly of Massachusetts (HAAM) where her pieces can be found in group shows around Massachusetts.

Buteau Dumont’s first solo exhibit was in Boston at the Piano Craft Gallery. She has also exhibited at The Litchfield Jazz Festival in Goshen, Connecticut, and at Karibe and Kinam Hotel in Port au Prince, Haiti. As a part of HAAM, she has been showcased in City Hall, the State House of Boston, and has participated in a group exhibit, The Art of Resilience, at Massasoit Community College in the Akillian Gallery. Buteau Dumont has been invited twice to exhibit at Tapped Apple Cidery & Winery in Westerly, RI. She most recently was chosen by a curatorial council to be a part of an exhibition at Culture Lab LIC in Long Island City, NY, called A Black Perspective on the Modern World.

Joane Buteau Dumont received an Official Resolution from Mayor of Boston, Michelle Wu for her participation in Stil Art Rises – First Haitian Women’s Exhibit at City Hall.
